Fryaway Dream: Part 2
(Previously on Fryaway Dream, read Fryaway Dream: Part 1)
Everyday, Penji would look into the mirror at his scars and take a long, deep sigh.
He would think about Lace, and think about various ways to win her over, but every time, he would look at his scars, he knew Lace would never love him even if a twelve hundred and twenty one years passed. So, he hated his body more and more everyday as his love for Lace grew everyday. As days passed by, Penji, ashamed of his own body, locked himself up in his bedroom and would never go out. Mother Potato would worry over Penji and would often urge him to go out and play with his friends but Penji would never go out.
One night, Penji was sitting in his bed and looking up above at the starry sky. He remembered how, when he was little, Mother Potato would often tell him stories of a fairy God potato who fulfilled everyone's wishes.
"If you pray hard enough, the fairy God potato will come to you at night and fulfill all your wishes," Mother Potato would say.
So Penji, determined to become a French fry and have a skin as smooth and a body as lean, would pray every night to the fairy God potato.
"I want to be a French fry. Please, make me a French fry," Penji would say.
Often and often, Penji would think about going to France hoping to fulfill his dream, thinking it was the land where French fries were made. But Penji didn't have any money and he couldn't leave Mother Potato alone, so he never went to France. Meanwhile, Penji's prayed and prayed, but the fairy God potato never came, even though he would pray very long and very hard, each night.
Slowly, Penji began to lose hope. So, Penji decided to tell Mother Potato of his love for Lace because Mothers always said that they knew best.
"You are good as you are, Penji," Mother Potato said, "All potatoes look like you. You should tell Lace about your feelings. How would you know if she likes you, if you never ask her?"
Greatly encouraged by Mother Potato's words, Penji decided to do something he never had the courage to do. He decided to talk to Lace.
